Abstract
Teaching reading is a key part of communication arts because it helps students build literacy skills and succeed in various subjects. This study looked into how reading is taught as part of communication arts in public elementary schools in the Dupax Del Norte II District, Dupax Del Norte, Nueva Vizcaya. It focused on teachers' backgrounds, the methods and strategies they use, their teaching skills, the availability of teaching materials, the challenges they face, and the remedial strategies they use in reading instruction. The research used a descriptive design with a questionnaire developed by the researcher, which was validated by experts and tested for reliability. To analyze the data, frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and standard deviation were used. The findings showed that teachers often used effective reading methods, instructional approaches, and strategies, had adequate teaching skills, and regularly used available materials to support literacy instruction. Even though teachers faced some significant challenges in teaching reading, they consistently applied remedial strategies to help students with reading difficulties. The results suggest that teachers are dedicated to providing effective reading instruction despite the challenges. The study emphasizes the need for ongoing professional development, sufficient teaching resources, and stronger school support to further improve the quality of reading instruction. Based on the findings, an enhancement program is proposed to boost teachers' skills and the implementation of reading instruction in Communication Arts.
